Porgy and Bess, the American opera that has swept broadway and major opera houses around the world with its magic, Is coming to Israel straight from new York with the 48 actors, choir and 50 musicians of the new York Harlem theatre orchestra.
The opera, first presented in Broadway in 1935, was written by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward and Ira Gershwin, and composed by George Gershwin. Porgy and Bess describes the afro-american life in the united states and focuses on the love story between crippled Porgy and drug addict Bess. The opera’s filled with numerous familiar melodies you didn’t even know originated there, which became the ABC of American music of the 20th century.
